Making Jesus Known in Sovereign Harbour

Rev Martin Keenan

Martin studied theology at The Nazarene Theological College in Didsbury, Manchester and was ordained in 1993. His first church in 1990 was in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he ministered for four years. When the Troubles ended he moved to Taunton, Somerset, and subsequently to Sherburn Circuit in North Yorkshire having transferred into the Methodist Ministry. In August 2001 he was invited by the Eastbourne Circuit to be the minister of Hailsham Methodist Church and to become involved in the planting of the Haven Church. Since September 2005 his role in the Circuit is as minister of The Haven Church. He is also the Methodist District Officer for Development of New Schools.

"My vision is of a church that is a haven for people who have been hurt by life, a church where people can feel as accepted as they would in their local pub, where they can be as excited about their relationship with God as they are about their football team. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, we all need that relationship with God through Jesus Christ without which we are still searching for the next big thrill. My vision is of a church 'where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came'."

Martin is also Team Chaplain to the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team and a Volunteer Counsellor at the Shinewater Shaftsbury Centre.

He is married to Anne and they have one daughter Tamar.
