About Us
We are all about knowing Jesus better ourselves and making him known more widely, particularly in Sovereign Harbour. On any given Sunday you will find a mixed group of Christians and not-yet-Christians from many walks of life and a variety of backgrounds. We love to welcome visitors! Come along, grab a tea or coffee and join with us!
We love our great Saviour Jesus Christ and it is our aim to live with him in charge of our lives as we learn from God's word, the Bible. We aim to serve and worship God with the whole of our lives and to reach out with the good news of God's love to our community. Our Sunday meetings are informal in style and visitors are always welcome. We meet in The Haven Primary School on Atlantic Drive.
Why not come along on Sunday at 10am and find out more?

The Haven Story
Although the Haven Church has been meeting as a congregation for nearly ten years, the vision for a church to serve the Sovereign Harbour area goes back much further than that.
The original plans for the Sovereign Harbour development included no provision for either a church or a school. The need for both was identified by a number of Christians in the surrounding area with the result that a prayer meeting began, attended by Christians from a several different church denominations and backgrounds. Their heart was for the Lord Jesus Christ to be loved and made known by people in the new development.
Towards the end of the 1990s God provided an answer to these prayers with the initiation of plans for a church school and a church congregation to meet on a site in the development area. The diverse backgrounds of those who had been praying for the area was reflected in the local partnership of the Church of England and the Methodist Church in Britain in establishing the new venture.
The vision for the venture was of the wider Church reaching out to the Sovereign Harbour community with the school, expressed most clearly with a church congregation meeting within the school building. The school and the church are linked very closely together and the joint foundation of the school (a Voluntary Aided Church of England/Methodist Primary School) reflects the church partnership. The clarity of this original vision was recently confirmed with the permanent expansion of the school from one form of entry to two forms, doubling the number of pupils at the school.
In October 2001 the Anglican Bishop of Lewes and the Methodist District Chairman met to sign the constitution of The Haven Church. With the school building not yet complete, the first service was held on February 10th 2002. Revd Martin Keenan and Revd Alan Weaver were appointed as the first ministers of the new church. Alan left in 2006 to take up a new post in Crowborough, and in 2010 Martin left for pastures northern - Banffshire in Scotland! Our current minister, Revd John Brook, arrived in November 2010.
